MEDICARE

In 2004 the Australian Government implemented Better Outcomes In Mental Health.  Social Workers and Registered Psychologists were granted provider numbers under the Medicare System to provide counselling services within Mental Health Plans formulated by General Practitioners. These provide for six sessions of focussed intervention with provision for another six after a review by a General Practitioner. Social Workers and Psychologists were also approved to provide pregnancy counselling pending completion of an approved training course.
